Global stocks are trading in different directions currently ahead of December US nonfarm payrolls data at 14:30 CET today. Wall Street is reopening today after US markets were closed yesterday to mark the death of former US president Jimmy Carter. Softbank shares rose 1.2% ahead of reports SoftBank’s chip designer Arm is considering acquisition of Ampere Computing, Sony shares slid 0.3% today.


Forex news

The Dollar strengthening continues today. The live dollar index data show the ICE US Dollar index, a measure of the dollar’s strength against a basket of six rival currencies, ended 0.2% higher on Thursday.

Both GBP/USD and EUR/USD slowed their retreating yesterday while statistics office Destatis reported German trade surplus and industrial production rose in November. Both euro and Pound are lower against the dollar currently. USD/JPY reversed its advancing while AUD/USD slowed its retreating on Thursday with both the yen and Australian dollar lower against the Greenback currently.

Stock Market news

US stock index futures are lower currently with the yield on benchmark 10-year Treasury notes up at 4.694%. The three main stock benchmarks ended little changed on Wednesday recording daily returns in a narrow range from -0.06% to 0.25% after ADP National Employment Report showed private payrolls growth slowed in December.

European indexes futures are up today after stock indexes closed higher yesterday with mining shares leading gains. Asian stock indexes futures are lower today with Hong Kong’s Hang Seng leading losses while the People’s Bank of China said it has decided to suspend treasury bond purchases temporarily due to short supply of the bonds.

Commodity Market news

Brent is advancing currently. Prices ended lower on Thursday against the backdrop of rising winter fuel demand as old weather gripped parts of the U.S. and Europe. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) futures gained 1.15% and are higher currently. Brent futures rose 1.29% to $77.14 a barrel on Thursday.

Gold Market News

Gold is extending gains presently. Spot gold continued rising third session in a row on Thursday: it added 0.33% to $26070.34 an ounce.
