U.S Annual CPI Rises to 2.0%, EZ CPI Drops Slightly to 2.6%, Euro Strengthens - 16.10.2012

The Consumer Price Index in the US over the last 12-months rose in September at 2.0% up from 1.7% in August, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The annual Core CPI (ex Energy & Food) rose to 2.0% in September up from 1.9% in August, confirming market consensus.
Earlier today the Eurozone CPI fell slightly to 2.6% in September down from 2.7% in August while the Core CPI excluding the most volatile items remained the same at 1.5% in September. The common currency against the greenback rose to 1.3061 on investor’s optimism ahead of EU summit on Thursday and was supported by the better than expected CPI data.
